I'm using the 788, of course, and I think I've decided to keep upgrading version and losing data instead of buying the Yamaha 16 track and learning a new machine all over again. So, I have a litlte budget to buy a good mic. I want to record vocal and accoustic guitar with it. I'll buy a pre-amp if necessary. I don't really have any serious budget constraints. Of course, I'd like to buy a mic for $50, but I did that already and it sucks. I would say that I don't want to spend more than $600 (including pre-amp if a pre-amp is necessary). But if there's a killer $1400 mic for $700, of course I'll do it. Likewise, if there's a $300 mic that is just as good as a $600 mic, I'd rather buy the $300 one (duh).

Any help is appreciated. Please, if you take the time to mention a mic, please tell me the maker so I can do some research at the maker's site.

Thanks a lot for all your help!

BPF,
Just drag your text over to the microphone section of homerecording.com and lots of experts can help you out over there.

Still, I think you'd be happy with a Studio Projects C-1, and the newest ones have a few extra features for the same price (around $230). For me, if it came to one mic, that would be it. But one can never have too many mics.

I have a Peavy mic, and a Yorkville Apex 430 which I bought because the Yorkville YSM's were so good. It's a pretty good mic.

I have an AKG and that is a pretty fair mic too. I use mics mostly for vocals.

If I got another mic, I'd like to add the AKG4000 as I've read nothing but good reports on that mic.

I also have the Sure Elvis mic around the studio just for decoration but it works pretty well.

So many mics these days and prices for everyone. I have always wondered if the Neuman mics are worth what they cost?

Don't land on any "sticky" hanging paper.

Hey how do you like those Yorkville YSM's? I order a pair but they seem to be parked in Florida.
