Line6 UX2...go to it for most everything

I have used them and recommended them a bunch of times but I am not confident that they are in the same league as the FMR stuff. No offense, but I am thinking they are geared much more to the hobbyist.

RNP is pretty hard to beat for the price, unless you have a seventh circle chassis and can build an n72

In don't record bass, but a lot of folks claim the ART Tube MP ($80), which isn't good for much, is actually an excellent bass DI. That, paired with either a Grace 101 or RNP, would give you options for both bass and vox.

IF I were you, I'd save my money a bit more, and buy a Great River preamp. You can get them new for about $1000 and less used.

For transparent and musical, I'd go with a P-Solo. Owned one last year and it served me well. Worked well for vox, and as a direct for guitar and bass. I think they're running somewhere in the $500 range now.

I dig all the love for GR (and I own one) but given the stated budget, the RNP is really perfect fit. the extra $200 could net you a RNC or RNLA.

I do love my GR, but quite frankly I still like the RNP a bit more for bass DI.

A great River/SM7 combo would be cheaper than an RNP/k2 combo.

All good ideas, however, it looks like we will need two-channel preamp.
In that case I would go for Art MPA Gold with swapped tubes and Mojave MA-200 mic.

I'am not sure about the SM7, the task is to get an LDC, despite all the history behind SM7, it would be difficult to sell that idea internaly.

GR ME-1NV and a Shure SM7.

Find a used Great River ME-1NV (usually ~ $800 on ebay ..... save up another $100) . They're great for not only vox and bass (DI), but they rock on mic'd amps and drums IMO. You will not regret it. They sound big, solid and you can vary the color by the input level. They hold their resale value well too as most folks won't part with them.

The RNP is nice as well, especially for the money, but the GR is a world apart.

Here's one that recently never sold on ebay ... you might contact the seller and see if you can make a deal?
