If you have a good mic pre amp and there are many out there, You can put a vocalist right in the warmest place and in front of the music.
Martinsound makes an item called a mic/max and it is expensive but reportedly, very very good. They also make another more expensive model that is even better. You can check out Martinsound on the web.
I use the ART dual channel mic pre and I can run anything through it as I record in the overdub mode; but, it is a gem for vocals.
Pick your price; try to listen to some of the models at a studio or check out stuff on this site which is amazing because of all the talented people who are willing to help you.
