Will a Behringer 602a mixer with 48V Phantom Power suffice as a preamp for my microphone into my computer for recording?? Also on another topic......what would you suggest for recording an acoustic guitar? 1)Pickup directly into the mixer into computer 2)Condenser mic 3)Shure Sm57??? ......I'm open to any better options if anybody has any...... Thanks...... BJ

same question for Behringer 802a ....

A microphone going into a Behringer 602a/802a going into your computer's sound card (assuming it's hooked up right) is all you need to record. As long as it transmits sound to your soundcard which you can record on your computer, then that is all you need.

However, if you want to have a "better" sound or if also want to have more variety of sounds, you should look into getting an outboard preamp(s) to go with your microphone.

What I would do (what I am currently doing myself) is stick with the Behringer into your computer setup - and then when you feel like you have reached the limits of your setup, get a preamp so that you can color the sound a little and also be able to bypass the preamps on the Behringer (which are kind of hissy on my 802a.)

What I would do for acoustic guitar is get a condenser. Pickups don't sound so good directly into a mixer. In my setup, I use either a Superlux PRA68a or an Oktava 319 - but alot of other people would recommend many other microphones. If you have an amplifier you could buy a pickup and then mic the amplifier with an SM57... but I personallly wouldn't recommend an SM57 for recording acoustics, because it isn't as good at picking up the nuance of the guitar sound. Do a search for acoustic guitar mic'ing on this board, you should find alot of stuff.

Good luck.

You can get very good results with this setup. You will definitely lust for a better pre before too long, though.
