Ugh! What an f'n disaster! I've never had a serious problem with my Mac G4/Digi 001 setup.... until now. A few days ago, after about 5 hours of track editing, the G4 gives me an error message that says it can't go to sleep because it's missing some system software. WTF??? I have my preferences set so the computer NEVER goes to sleep.
Then later that day, I go to play back a midi bass track but instead of bass it's giving me a drum/piano combination.
The next day, I power up as usual and I'm getting no sound out of the monitors. I can see levels in protools but I'm getting zero sound into the mixer. Fuck me. So I start trying to troubleshoot the problem. I plugged headphones into the mixer... nothing. Then I plugged the headphones into the 001 and I can hear music ...but it's literally playing at about 1/20th the speed it should be (and no, I didn't have protools set to play halfspeed).
Man, I wish I had 7K laying around. I'm borrowing the money from my 403b fund until the money that's coming to me in a couple of months materializes (that's the money I was going to use to upgrade). l'm doing it this way because I don't lose anything. Any interest I have to pay goes back into my account. I figure if I have to pay interest, I may as well be paying it to myself, right?
I'm toying with the idea of adding a Rosetta 200 to the list but I'm not sure if I really need to as I'm not sure how much of a difference there is in the AD/DA of the 003 compared to the 001.
Thanks for the tip. I checked it out and about half the plugs he has are plugs I don't want, so I'd have to lay out more cash to get the missing magic. The nice thing about the UAD bundles is they give you a basic set of plugs and a voucher so you can fill out the lineup how you like. The bundle I'm getting gives me 5 plugs and a voucher for $750 to use at their store.
