Mic Pre Purchase Narrowed Down

I own a 428, and it's decent. If you can't make it work, the problem isn't the 428. I had the 3124, and you really need to push it to get your money's worth. I didn't feel like buying 4 ATTY's, so I sent it back and got a Pacifica and an ADL600. The Pacifica has little magical gnomes inside it that make everything better. The ADL600 is pretty nice too.
If you're going to digital, I'd recommend saving up and getting a couple of pairs just to have a different color. Or the API if you can pad the output....but also remember that the 428 can be used as a 8ch da converter, which is very useful. I haven't used the pres in it since I got the Pacifica and the ADL600 though.

The API is well worth padding down, get your tech/repair guy to put some resistors in the cables to pad them down -15, thats a lot cheaper the the ATTY boxes.
