Hey I'm looking for a mic pre for my axe fx 2, i intend to record modern prog metal/hardcore vocals with it. At the moment im just using a sm57, but hopefully upgrade to a sm7b. Im looking at two ART pre-amp. My budget is around 500-600. the chain is mic to pre-amp to axe fx 2. Im only using the pre-amp for vocals, nothing else.

the mpa-II is in my price range

ART Pro MPA-II 2 Channel Microphone Preamplifier - ProMPAII | Videoguys Australia

so it the ART Pro

ART Pro Channel Professional Tube Mic Preamp / Compressor / EQ - Pro Channel | Videoguys Australia

Any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated thanks!

Yeah, but it does seem a bit strange that you would run a preamp in front of another preamp/modeler. Your post seemed strange to me at first as well. If the Axe FX2 has a line input that could work with a preamp for a vocal mic, then that makes much sense. We don't all use your specific gear.

Just make sure the preamp you get has good clean gain of at least 65db, if you wish to get the balls out of an SM7b. I am not familiar with the ones you listed, so another member may be able to give more direct input here.

By the way, probably not a good idea to throw out arrogance at a member with much more time here than you. Call me 'champ', and I will likely not ever help you. Just sayin. This place is for those wishing to interact and help each other, not make judgements, or call names.

It looks like they have line outs and the interface has line in.
Check the tech specs to be certain though.

That aside, I vote for the Pro Channel, purely because it's single channel and one channel of an MPA 2 would be wasted.

Even though your effects module is stereo, you'd still be running one mic, ie. a mono channel into it.

Yeah, i thought he/she was just trolling, sorry. Thanks for the help, ill check the clean gain on the pre-amp.

No probs.
It's literally just for the reasons given though. I don't know if either are any good. ;)

I'd suggest something more along the lines of a Golden Age Pre73, Warm Audio WA12, or if you want more than one channel, the Black Lion Audio Audio Auteur is worth a look. With a budget that high, there's no sense in going with an Art preamp IMO. They are good on a low budget, but yours permits you to have a much higher quality unit, that you won't want to upgrade nearly as quickly.
