I'm about to buy a mic pre for my studio. Here are my choices:

Mindprint EnVoice
Focusrite Platinum Voicemaster
DBX 286a
DBX 386
Joe Meek VC6Q British Channel

These are about @ maximum price range that I can take, so please don't confuse me any further. ;-)

Fine PREs

Those are all fine PREs. I don't want to say anything negative about any of them. But there are also ther choices that are LESS expensive and so close in quality of sound as to be indistinguisgable:

1. M-Audio DMP2: $180 street, ** $80 now at MARS **
2. Behringer MIC2000: $180, includes parametric EQ.
3. Mackie 1202 VLZ Pro: four PREs +mixer for $350

Axis,

Mars has discontinued that DMP2 and are out....I lucked out and got www.audiomidi.com to price match it even after Mars was out......

Miha, out of the ones you listed, the Mindprint Envoice sticks out at me over the DBX and Joe Meek...Ive never heard that Focusrite so I cant comment on that, but the Mindprint is a nice unit....wish I had the $$$$ for one....

hmmm

Look at the Symetrix 568 and the Aphex 107. The Aphex gives you 2 good pre's, and its fairly cheap, and its hard to argue against it. If you go to Aphex website, check out the 1100. Awesome, but expensive. HOpefully I have the model numbers right, I'm going by memory.
