Mic Pre-Amp recommendations

I'm looking for a couple of decent mic pre-amps for a small studio application. I'm an old school producer/engineer and normally I've been able to use the pre's on the console that I'm used to. However I'm doing a project for an acoustic artist and I need to do this direct digital into my G4 computer, through a MOTU 828MkII interface & Logic.

I have a decent collection of mics, but as the computer is going to be the mixer in this case, I need to purchase some decent mic pre-amps for the following:

1. Vocals
2. Acoustic Guitar
3. Bass guitar (direct box probably)
4. Small electric guitar amp (ie. Vox)

I haven't been shopping for gear for a while, and when I started to look I'm completely confused as to the options here. So I'm looking for some advice.

Can anyone recommend a good pre-amp for my application, and also (hopefully) let me know how you've used the one you've recommended and if there are any applications that might be similar to mine. Thanks in advance.

Great River MP1NV... $1175.00 just a little over your budget but its a very nice sounding pre..Then theres a myriad of other choices but this is the one I would start with..to me anyways..Just stay away from the "lite bulb" toob pres such as the ART tube MP's and there ilk. good luck

Single unfortunatly..do you need two inputs..if you do then perhaps somethings else..like a RMP {Ive never used one however folks seem to dig them} or a pair of Grace 101's I have a pair and they can do a very nice job,however they are clean to a fault sometimes..

Great River MP1NV, if you have the money, just go there.

In the $1,000-$1,200 range you could look at a Sebatron vmp 2000e, a Vinteck 1272, Apogee Mini MP, or one of the Toft preamps.

The MP1NV is a single input Pre... I also so believe it has a smaller power supply than the Great River dual input MP-2NV preamp. I love the Great River MP-2NV preamp.

You'd probably like the Old School Audio's www.oldschoolaudio.com . You could pick up an API lunchbox and maybe start filling it with one or two modules depending on your budget.

I'd get a Sytek MPX-4A if you like the idea of having 4 channels.

Great River or John Hardy would be a good bet if you want just one really really good channel.

You might also want to check A-Designs' MP2 all tube dual mic pre, and the Manley/Langevin Dual Vocal Combo. I own both and have been very happy with them. They are both priced right. The MP2 is a very smooth sounding tube pre with the right coloration. The DVC offers a lot of value for the money, with the addition of the basic EQ and elop limiters (LA-3 style) that can be used separate from the preamps.
