mic pre amp, compressor, voice ripper

whats the difference from a mic pre amp, a compressor and a voice ripper...need help on these before i buy....thanks...

A mic preamp takes the relatively low signal produced by a microphone and amplifies it to line-level.

A compressor is a device used to control signal dynamics.

I have no idea what a voice ripper is... sounds like something kids would use....
