Mic Pre- £2-300

Im currently researching some gear i wanna add to my setup and want to get at least one nice channel of mic pre (Am getting a board with what will hopefully be a few nice pre's for drums etc, looking at Soundcraft M12) Looking to spend between 2 and 300 (Pounds). I wont be able to spend any more than this, is it worth it for this money or should i just use the pre's in the board?? I quite like the idea of having a little bit of tube overdrive option although i hear the cheaper ones are pap...

For a good value, quality pre, as you are in the UK, Turnkey have just dropped the price of the SPL Gold Mike from £500 to £300. It has a valve stage, although with a fixed gain. There is a review here if you would like to read it:
