Right now I'm looking at buying a drum mic package eventually. I currently use a Shure PG48 and 2 cheap RadioShack mics. What do you guys think of buying packages? Should I bother? They are like $500+ here in Canada for 4 mics, which I need.

Considering your mic setup now, a mic pack would be a definate step up. Try a shure mic pack, some of those mics have many uses besides drums. (like the SM57) Have fun!

Personally, the Sennheiser pack with 3 604's, 1 602 is the best deal going. And its not made by Shure... what better reason? :)
Then, get yourself two mxl 603's for OH's and you are good to go. Maybe pick up something for snare.

I'll see what I find. I think I saw some sort of Shure ___ package, can't remember which series, but not 57 or 8.

$500 in Canada is about $316.54 US......

with that Id go with the 603's tubedude suggested, a AT ATMPRO25 for kick, and a sm57 for snare.......

you could probably use the PG48 you have already on toms if you like to mic the toms.....

Well I only have 4 mic inputs to use. So I want to do 2 overheads, snare and kick. I'd be nice to do the toms if I could though.
