On the back of the chassis of my TubePRE there are two signal inputs, one XLR for the mic and one 1/4" for a instrument. When I hook up my mic to the 1/4" instrument input I get a strong signal; When I hook up my mic thru the (XLR) mic input I am getting a very very weak signal. What's going on here??

Maybe something's wrong...

Read the manual and make sure everything is set right...

Line in is usually meant to handle 1-10V input, where as the mic in might handle .001 - 1V.

This means that the mic input is supposed to be amplifying much more than the line input.

mic input

I'm getting nothing from the mic input (XLR connector) and very strong signal thru the instrument input. This doesn't make any sense right? Everything is hooked up according to the user's manual. The mic is a Sennheiser E835 which has great sound. Should I just go with the instrument input for the mic and forget about the mic input?

Does the instrument jack still have a plug in it?

Contact Presonus, their tech support folks are quite responsive.

problem solved

Turns out I had the PAD button turned on. Didn't know any better. When I turned it off... shazzam, instant good power signal thru the mic input. Oooops.

YO Eric:

It happens to ALL of us. One little button in the wrong position sometimes takes an hour to find.

But, it's still fun.

Green Hornet :D

Happened to me too...

I had a power amp (brand new mind you) sitting on the bench for about two years because of low output.

I plugged my input into the 'Xover Out' jack instead of the 'input' jack. They were right next to each other.
