Check out some of the Audix D-series Mics..
I just have one (for snare) but you might be able to rent a kit...
They (well at least they claim) that the D- series is designed to ward off bleeding while picking up a nice clear sound of the instrument its actually pointed at...
I find this somewhat true... I get alot less cymbal bleed with my D-2 then with my SM57... and they are very close sounding...
I can't say which is better, cause it's sort of 2 different sounds...
SM57's with gates are good.. pretty much the standard....
