Thanks for the replies. I've been doing some research since I posted and have found that this is as big a minefield as choosing which mics and pres for recording to PC was; there are just so many to choose from
First choice to make, other than budget, is what pattern. I don't particularly need versatility here since I've got a pair of SD and an LD on order for home recording; the MD recorder will be used for recording events, but having never attended one of these events, it's difficult to know whether I need cardiod or omni-directional. It's most likely that I need something inbetween. The course in August will probably have the instructor out front and the participants sitting round, and the other gathering will I think be a sort of open mic idea for one of the nights and a couple of workshop type things.
I found some interested gooseneck mics at
SoundProfessionals.com but this is more of an innovative way of wearing the mic and doesn't really help much with the mic choice. Although a pair of cardiods at each end would be fairly easy to manipulate
Another neat idea is the
Coresoft binaural omni mics that go in your ears or attach to your eye glasses. Not a bad price for what, according to the testimonials anyway, are pretty decent mics for the sort of recording situations I'll be in.
Anyone have any comments on either of the above, or indeed anything else that may be relevant?
Cheers,
Cams
