I like my recordings.
well, I already make my decisions for drum micing.

kick - AT Pro25.
Snare - Shure sm57.
OverHeads - AT Pro37r.
Toms - Samson r-11.

I will use different Technics: 2 overheads, one kick; all drums close micked; kick, snare, hit-hat, one overhead, etc.

so, what are your sugesstions for the hit-hat, I dont want a condensor because the lickage. first I thougt in the shure 16am.

a sm57? a hypercardio? thanx.

price range: x < $100 in zZounds ;)

well, I'm not sure exactly what they are going for right now-but look for a Beyer m422.
They are a little over $100 (around $110 or so) and it's a Hypercardioid. I use one on Snare and have used it on Hi-hat.
I think it's one of the best drum mics around.

a 57 will work fine.

Hell, get a Nady condenser! hahaha

Hi Proveras!
How's it going?

Check around for mic's. Personally_ if you're gonna mic the Hi-hat individually, I would say get a Condenser-just because it will have more of a "crisp" sound-but if you've totally made your mind up about using a dynamic-look at that Beyer.

I haven't been around for a bit-I got layed off, and was living off of Money I had saved-but that started running out.
I applied for a Job the other day but didn't get it-and I sure as hell could have used it (Hey man-$20 an hour as an Internet Researcher!) I had a band ask me to run sound for them-but that's just on weekends. I need something fulltime. Damn I wish I had built a Bathroom in here when I soundproofed.
If I had a bathroom in here-I could record bands here for money.
(I just don't want strangers going through my house to use the bathroom-after all, they would be STRANGERS!)

Actually, I'm trying to see if I can find somebody who wants to go "halves" on a studio. (as In I have most of the gear, and they come up with the place to do it, and provide a little outboard gear and we're in business!)

Hey Proveras, that's funny- I've got no bathroom in my studio either (or running water for that matter- except for the hose outside) .... but that's OK, the cotton need fertilizer anyway :D

-jhe

the thread changes, NEEDS OF BATHROOM IN THE STUDIO!!

the cotton need fertilizer?
I can believe that from you JAMES...

in my studio there are some advices like: NO SMOKE, NO DRINKS, and know its gonna be NO BATHROOM FOR STRANGERS!!!

DO IT OUTSIDE DUDES!!! no cotton fertilizer here!!!

Just To Keep Things Clear

The fact that a mic is a dynamic or condenser isn't nessicarily a factor of preventing or causing leakage. For the most part, the polar pattern and sensitivity of a mic is the determining factor. Given, for the most part, condensers are more sensitive than dynamics, but not always.

I actually use a Pro37r on hi-hat and Okatava mc012 for overheads. I think the Pro37r sounds pretty good on hi-hat.
Try it out.
