what's the best mic for recording an acoustic guitar
as usaul I'm another tighty on a budget

Look Below

I have been pestering the board with the same question for the last month. Search for my handle to see what has been discussed.
I think the consenseless of opinion is:
CAD C400S: Damn good for the price ($160)
Rode NT3: Also Damn good for the price ($160)

AKG C300B, AT4033, AT4041, RODE NT1 & NT2, OKTAVA MK319,
Neumann K184, Shure SM81.....and some others, all "good", but in higher price categories, or having specific characteristics that people may or may not like.

again, i don't know how many other people have experience with them, but my audix om-3xb's (~$150) sound damned nice on my acoustic-they have a lighter weight element, and hence offer a better transient response than most other dynamics. the response curve seems pretty flat, too.. on the other hand, at 160 bucks, a rode sounds damned nice-i love my audixes, but i'd dig a passable condenser..

I have an Audix OM-5 dynamic. You're right they do get better transient response than most dynamics, but in the end,you still want a good condenser.I wish I still had my AKG C451.It sounded great on AC.guitar.Cheers!
