Mic compatability

Hi all,

I have a Studio Projects TB-1 cardioid mic with a weird 7-pin XLR that I want to take into the field with me by powering it with a Rolls MX56C. The Rolls takes a 3-pin XLR. I can't seem to find an adapter anywhere. Does anyone know how I can get my hands on a cable with a male 3-pin XLR on one end and a female 7-pin XLR on the other?

The 7 pin connector is standard on mics with a tube that also require plate and filament voltages as well as audio signals. It needs an external power supply to work.
 
If you really need to power a tube mic in the field, you can always use one of those car starter batteries with a built-in voltage inverter, then plug the AC power adapter into that. This is assuming, of course, that the power supply has enough filtering to handle a not-so-clean 110VAC waveform.
 
When all is said and done, rather than buying and hauling power inverters, etc., I think it's a lot easier and cheaper to just get a different mic, one without a tube, for remote recording.-Richie

Don't try to reinvent the wheel (microphone) just get a really nice field microphone and leave the tube in the studio.
