For recording vocals in a homerecording (demo) kind of environment, is an inexpensive condenser mic (such as the ECM8000 which someone was mentioning in another forum) going to give me any better quality than the (dynamic) SM58 I already own?

Thanks,

J

As true of a mic the ecm8000 is, you really want a mic that will lie to you and make voices sound better so in your situation I would consider using the sm58 for vocals and use the ecm8000 for instruments.

Using the ECM8000 to record your voice will you a sonically accurate picture of your voice. It will let you faithfully record anything put near it. Only you can decide if this is a good thing or not. A Shure SM-58 will probably be less accurate, but more flattering.
