For recording, you really don't want to use mic clips. The vibrations from the drums can kill the sound and even damage the mics. Stands are the way to go.

Also, the butterfly-type mic clips are what you want for the MSH mics. The regular ones are too big.

so i should have a stand for each tom and snare?
which stands are cheap but goodm they will just be used in my basement for my drums and guitar/bass amps. Are the on-stage one's any good, they are fairly cheap, or the musicians friend are even cheaper.

I bought some On-Stage rim clips in hopes of recording my kit without 700 mic stands. To make a long story short, I still use 700 mic stands. ;)
