After reading and being informed from many threads here I decided to register. I also read/post at another board.

I currently have a Rode NT2, AKG D310, and (2) Behringer ECM8000's. I am currently looking into some more mic purchases to further my stock and add more flexibility. Here are my choices. I can get two from the top choices. And MXL V67 and MXL 603s are almost a sure bet. Although I am considering the Rode NT5 in place of the 603s - depending on how whether the NT5's end up being really horrible mics for the most part or well-balanced, good pair.

- B.L.U.E. Baby Bottle (my personal 1st choice right now)
- Rode NT1000 (mabye)
- Rode NTK (maybe)
- AT4033 (my 2nd choice)
- Shure SM-7 (a tie for 2nd choice)

- Marshall MXL V67
- Marshall MXL 603s -vs- Rode NT5 (pr.)

Does anyone have any working experience/comments on the B.L.U.E. mics... especially the Baby Bottle especially?

Of the top 4, which two would you recommend as a starting point, being that I will not be able to make another mic purchase until at least early '03. I will be doing mostly vocal/acoustic guitar... and on occassion, saxaphone and background vocals. I know this is very general, but at least it points in some direction.

the Baby Blue Bottle doesnt sound better enuff than the v67 to justify the $$$$....that is a personal opinion...you will have to try them both and decide for yourself.......

id go with the v67 and the pair of 603's......

i dont know why you would expect the nt5 to be "terrible"? I mean...worth the money over 603's, is another story...but Rode is riding on several success stories.

SM-7 -adds most in terms of diversity? How about a 57?

NT1000 -one of the quietest, perhaps THE quietest mic I've used, if quiet matters. Smoother sounding than NT2, imho.

$0.02

I do have access to SM-57's.

I would not purchase a new microphone without gathering sufficient feedback or sampling them. Rode does have a good track record, but you just never know. Price-point shifts to the MXL603 though.

Blue Baby Bottle doesn't sound any better than the MXL 67? Can you explain specifically?

How and where does the NT1000 compare with the 4033?

If possible, no simple "that mic stinks!". Again, I'm looking for comments based on working experiences and knowledge.

read it again dude...i said it doesnt sound better enuff than the v67 to justify the extra $$$$.....

Wow, that must mean that the V67 is one heck of a mic in your opinion. Not to sound sarcastic, but is the V67 not much different that let's say, a TLM-103 to your ears? The TLM is a contender.

What about V93's from Mars? Comparable to V67's?

The V67 is an ok mic, The 99.00 price is what is phenomanal about it. Probubly right now the best under 100.00 mic. When the B1 comes out Id be interested to see which one is better.

The v93 is supposed to be awfully close to a TLM. Maybe a little brighter. Certainly not as good to be considered a replacement, but it's about as close as you'll get in the $150 range.

The v67 just has a more colorful sound due to it's transformer and the shape of it's body.

I own both, and they're very good mics. The v93 sounds more neutral and has more features (bass rolloff/ -10db pad), which makes it more versatile. The v67 has more character, and is known as more of a vocal mic. I find myself having to use a generous amount of bass-cutting on it, though.
