Lapdance Test Dummy
looking for a first mic to replace my....uh....Radio Shack...mic...I want one that will work primarily on vocals, but also be able to mic a guitar amp. Since I will be getting a POD a little later, this mic will move up to a vocals only mic. I would like to stay under 100 dollars.

Everyone here will say SM57 or SM58... I'd go with the 57 over the 58. If you have balls then you don't need the ball.

Yeah, great argument there Saittn! I second the evil one on the 57 though (unless you dish out a little more for the 58beta). It (the 57) will last you years, from drums to gums. (Don't ask). Versatile, resistant. A good tool, all 'round.

Thanks S8-N and Suntag, i think i will go with the SM57. 8th Street has them for 79.00 right now.

just to let you know, I went with the SM57......

btw, what is the difference between the SM57 and SM58?.....I heard they were the same.......

y'know, i'm not sure how well a dynamic will reproduce the subtle nuances of a sarcastic tone...

SERIOUSLY, the sm58 without the ball SOUNDS the same as a sm57 TO ME.......

but ive heard many different explainations as to whether they are the same or not and the truth is I could care less......

yes that was sarcasm but it was meant to be funny......

btw, i think the RNP would help the sm57 pick up sarcasm just fine......

No way, you can't accurately reproduce sarcasm on anything that doesn't have an internal power supply. To my ears, sarcasm come across as mostly cynicism through the RNP. Now, by using a Great River you hear all of the nuances of contempt and the biting sting of truly great sarcasm.

They're NOT the same at all.........

...the casing is different, the windscreen is different, the grille is completely different, and on one of them the grill is removable.

Sure, the capsule and internal are the same, but what does that matter, they don't even look alike!!!!

:p ;)

Yep, AND one has brilliant white lettering, the other has more of an antique white.

Fundamental differences.

these are the things that matter my friends....on the way to reaching our aim....known only as

"harmonycentral2"

i swear to you they're the same mic, there's only one number difference in the name. and they're made by the same company.

in fact i know they're the same. i nailed it.

they both take a three pin lead in the bottom (sounds painful) - what are the chances of that? you can't tell me that's a coincidence.
