So I originally thought about building my own mic cables but I could never get straight how to buy quality cable and connectors.
I know there are different gauges and types of microphone cables. I also know that I don't feel like paying for BLUE or Monster's advertising and marketing campaigns everytime I buy one of their cables(oh, and check out the crap Monster is trying to pull with this (http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/discuss.cgi?noframes;read=330015)
swell company.
I know high end cables are only useful if you make the big jump and buy a great one for your vocals or whatnot. Thus, I'm trying to use some deductive logic to shop for some no-name cables that are high quality but affordable.
Take this ebay ad for instance:
# Extremely high performance "quad" XLR cable
# 22 ga. high purity 99.98% copper conductors
# 98% coverage braided tinned copper shield
# EWI ES3FB-GDP & ES3MB-GDP XLR ends
I believe quad is the braid and the rest is stuff that's only useful when comparing across cables. For instance, what makes the BLUE cables different than other cables?

That gave me a good laugh, I've never seen anything so completely and utterly pointless in my life.
It just seemed logical to me at first. Anyway I don't understand much abt. cables. That's why I paid so much to Van Den Hul microphone cables to eleminate the risk of noise coming from poor screened cables.
I could buy a 4 channel preamp with that money.
