So I originally thought about building my own mic cables but I could never get straight how to buy quality cable and connectors.
I know there are different gauges and types of microphone cables. I also know that I don't feel like paying for BLUE or Monster's advertising and marketing campaigns everytime I buy one of their cables(oh, and check out the crap Monster is trying to pull with this (http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/discuss.cgi?noframes;read=330015)
swell company.
I know high end cables are only useful if you make the big jump and buy a great one for your vocals or whatnot. Thus, I'm trying to use some deductive logic to shop for some no-name cables that are high quality but affordable.
Take this ebay ad for instance:
# Extremely high performance "quad" XLR cable
# 22 ga. high purity 99.98% copper conductors
# 98% coverage braided tinned copper shield
# EWI ES3FB-GDP & ES3MB-GDP XLR ends
I believe quad is the braid and the rest is stuff that's only useful when comparing across cables. For instance, what makes the BLUE cables different than other cables?
