Mic and preamp to complement AKG414XLS and UA610 solo tube

Just my vocal and acoustic guitar- 414xls is great on guitar but I want a cleaner( probably just my perception) vocal sound. Can get just mic and mic pre combination want to spend around $1,200. Tenorish male sings Neil Young, Beatles, Lightfoot, Everly Bros. Thanks for any advice.

Well, without trying a bunch of mics and preamps on your voice I can't say for sure, but an RE20 into a Grace 101 is bound to sound pretty good on you.

Here's a decent Neil Young/ HomeRecorded track.... SM7 and Tascam 1641, dry and home-spun sound...

I have really limited exp...
the Joe Meek line is really cool for the british sound, imo....its a beatly-tone.
Neil Young and Beatles I never thought of as the same sounds really....

$1200 you should have no problem getting something really nice. Keep posting any reviews of gear would be cool...

I'm a channel strip fan, $1200 can get you a really nice channel strip..
