mic amps

So, my band was wanting to try to record guitar, bass, and drums all at once....we know what drum mics we need...but we were wondering if we should mic the amps..like, just put a mic right next to the amp...I personally dont think it will be very good quality...but I dont know much..what do you guys think?

That's how it's done, jam a 57 down it's throat and record away. Move it around the cone to find the sweet spot, If you've got a condenser laying around stick it about a foot off the ground and start three feet away and move him around a bit too
