I have windows xp and just installed a mia 24.96 sound card. Sonar will not work. It was suggested to me that it nay be the mia sound card and xp...This true?? Everything in sonar is set correctly by a guy that is very good at sonar. He thinks it the sound card. When I hit play nothing happens!

Hi J Morris,

It's highly unlikely that your Mia is at fault.

What are you trying to play? MIDI files? The Mia does not have an on-board sound chip for playback of MIDI files. You'll have to route the sounds through a software synthesiser in order to hear them. There's a soft-synth bundled with SONAR, the Edirol VSC DXi. Read the section in the SONAR manual Working With Soft Synths for a full explanation.

Surely this one's for the FAQs Moskus... :)

No midi files at all.just wave files from my alesis hd24 that I transfer via ethernet cable. I used sonar a little on my other computer.Im trying to set up the second on but it just wont play! I hit the play button and...nothing. If I change the setting to 16 bit from 24, at time it would play like 1 second of the music.

OK, let's see if I've got this right:

You've recorded some music on the Alesis, you've copied the wav files onto your PC and SONAR won't play them?

You've got 2 PCs, both with SONAR.

Did you run SONAR's wave profiler on both PCs?

I suspect your problem is SONAR-related rather than with the excellent Mia audiocard.

Wave profile is ok. Im no computer person by any means buit my computer at my demo studio works fine with office 2000,my home computer with xp is not. Everything looks ok in Sonar just no playback..and I mean when I hit play it does nothing. Jim

Alright Jim,

Let's look at this one step at a time.

First, fire up SONAR.
Second, load Tutorial8.bun
Third, press the play button
Fourth, report back...

Tutorial8.bun can be found in the Tutorials directory in Sonar. It comprises wave files from live instruments. If that plays OK, your problem lies elsewhere other than with Sonar & the Mia.
