I even reformatted it and when I reinstalled it into another computer, it only read 2gig out of the 4gig in CMOS. Ive tryed everything. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

hey dont u post in DT too?
did u try fdisk? run it from a floppy or something just wipe all partitions and remake them then format (u have to format or dos wont see it)hope that helps

Were you using a partition manager like Partition Magic? If so, I think there is a rescue program you could try.

Otherwise, there is a program called DiskManager that often comes with the hard drives it self which is a low level formatting program. It WILL toast everything on the disk though. The only problem with this program is that you have to get the version what matches you're HDD brand (the HDD companies license this program from whoever makes it). I've got versions that will work on Seagate, and Quantum drives if you need it.

If your BIOS does it properly, you could also try using the low level format in the BIOS.

Try and work out what programs recognize the disk as a 4G drive and use those programs.

I hate it when this happens.

NO,not it DT, never heard of it actually. Anyway thanks for your help.

Could you be specific?

e.g. What operating system. What file system. When did you notice things were missing? Exactly when did you move it to another machine, and did that machine detect the exact same size. Etc etc.

This problem sounds oddly familiar but the way you're describing it has me wondering... Post a bit more detail!

This happened when windows crashed a while ago, or caused it to. So I restarted and then the patitioned drive (2 part D :) was gone from everything....MyComp, explorer, DOS, just not there. Ever Since the drive is only read at 2gig vs the full 4gig. Hope that cleared it up.
