Hey
Is there a way to make the metronome louder in ableton live lite 7?
it used to be alright, but only now when I record drums, I cant hear it over them when I play. help?

Can't you just turn the phones up?

As a last resort you could always record the click, and then crank the living heck out of it :D :laughings:

Maybe double track yourself counting with the metronome - one track full head voice, one track a bit softer or even whispering the key phrases - one and three or even two and four if you are shooting for an edgier feel. Roll off the lows of course and pan no more than 70/70.

so it seems that there isnt a standard method.
when I tried turning the headphones up the drums are still just as loud compared to it so that doesnt work.
I suppose I will try recording it then, but not for a while, Ive done the drum track for that song now anyway, now onto bass and guitars :D sounding awsome :)

I just did but it only has options to edit MIDI key and map and whatever

but wont that just turn down the level when I record it? and I dont want it to be quieter

Does Ableton work with ACID style loops ? If so yay, just make on in the default tempo->trim->export as loop and voila - you have an acidized metronome loop that adjusts to your session tempo.

Your monitoring volume should be independent of your recording level. You should be able to turn something down in your phones without affecting it's recording level.

Absolutely. When I'm tracking with one of my friends that plays drums loud, I don't even have him in my phones ! I don't need to. You can hear him two miles away ! But if I want minimal recording levels, easy.
If you have an amp, why not just record a 10 minute snatch and then send it through the amp at deafening volume, like guitaristic suggested ?

so what bit do I turn down on my xenyx mixer so that it wont effect the volume Ableton records at but I will only be able to hear the metronome through my headphones?

Route the tracks that you're recording to to your mixer, along with the sound of the metronome. Just turn up that particular fader {the metronome one} more than the others and turn up your headphone volume till everything's comfy in your ears.

I know, sorry, I know a few things well, but everything else I have no idea, I am still a newbie.

If you're listening to a metronome coming from ableton, then is the sound of your drums in the headphones also coming from ableton?

I don't know exactly what way your setup is, but usually, and basically, adjusting the mixer levels will affect how things are recorded,
adjusting the faders in ableton will affect how you hear things.

Mute everything in ableton except the metronome if this is how you're set up.
If not, tell us more. :)

basically, I have a xenyx x1222usb connected to my HP windows 7 laptop running Ableton live lite 7. Before I click the record button ON A TRACK (not actually recording yet) I here the volume through the headphones plugged into the x1222. This is normal volume and when I do press record it hardly changes the volume I hear. So basically, when I turn something down on the mixer, it records at that level, when I turn the track Im recording on down, it doesnt effect the volume at all because the sound is still coming through the headphones at the same volume from the mixer. and, the metronome is still barely heard.
My suspicions is that I need to select something on the right side of the selected track in the arrangement screen to route the tracks to the mixer, but I really dont know. hope you understand my setup and all the crap I just wrote down, and even more hope that you have a simple solution to my problem

Ok, I could be wrong, but it sounds like you're direct monitoring the drums and hearing the metronome from the software.
If this is the case, then you are right. Currently the only way to turn down the drums will alter the recording level.

I think you need to find a way to run software monitoring for everything, which means you'd be hearing the drums on their way out of ableton.
This would make my above advice work.

Have a look for a direct monitoring option in ableton and in the xenyx software (if there is any).
If you find it, turn it off.
