Ok so I'm little confused about a minor issue that I just want to clarify. On the cubase mixer there is options for meter input, meter post-fader, and meter post-panner. Now I have no problem understanding what that means at all, however...

When I am setting up to record, lets say I have the mixer set on meter input, and I'm sending my guitar in so that its averaging at about -12db on the meter. I dont add any effects to the input channel, and I leave the fader at zero, using my pre to alter the volume going in, or in some cases my amp.

Bearing this in mind, if I then set the meters to post-fader, there shouldn't be any diference in what it reading out? Is this the case?

I noticed the other night when tracking some bass, that what the input channel read, when set to input meter, seemed to be different to what it reads post fader, despite everything being set to 0 (with no EQ or effects)

Is this normal or do I have a problem?

Cheers

I suppose that is indeed what it should be. Perhaps the meters just act differently when used on the input. Maybe at input, the meters go up to 0db, while metering the faders would go up to +6db?

I just had a look on cubase to see if could be more precise as to what i was talking about. and it doesn't appear to be an issue now. I must have been doing something wrong before. Usually the best explaination for strange things....
