Meterbridge Calibration.

In an attempt to get some consistency in meter level indication between my HD24 and Soundcraft 6000, I performed the following using the built-in 700 Hz test tone on the Soundcraft:

Sent the test tone to all channels on the HD24 and set record levels to 0db, or just below onset of clipping. The Soundcraft meters were showing +6dB or so - well into the red. I then calibrated each meter to indicate the same (0db) levels as the HD24. I also changed the meter reading over to VU (instead of peak reading).

I hope I did the right thing here. The meters are no longer slamming into the red, although the overall modulation now does seem a tad on the low side, but better than before.

If anyone thinks there is a better (or actually correct) method of calibrating, please let me know....

The problem is that you now have no idea what your real signal strength is on the mixer. There is no reason for the meters to have to be the same. One is an analog device and the other digital. Often you want to go over 0db on an analog board.

+6 on the analog board is probably a good place to match up with 0db on the HDR and is pretty standard.
