Hello, I just registered to this forum, but I've been reading threads here for quite a while. And I'm very interested in audio production but have so much to learn. But anyway, I've been working on this song with a friend for a couple of weeks and we're just now starting to track vocals (which I have no experience in and would very much like advice lol). So far this is what we've got.

View attachment Melodal.mp3

Vocals start at 1:05 roughly. (Minus the exception of the intro screams)

Basically I have no idea where I stand as a "producer", I still use FL Studio but I really want to switch over to Cubase.

For guitars I double tracked using Guitar Rig 5 with Guitar Rig mobile I/O interface (nothing too fancy)

Drums I used a slightly altered Steven Slate kit

Vocals - I had no idea what I was doing, since they're screams I didn't think I'd need a preamp. They were also recorded on a 3-capsule USB Condenser mic, I processed with compression, reverb, and a touch of EQ to clean them up, and a slight hint of distortion. I really want to work on the vocals, but as I said I have no idea what I'm doing.

If anybody has any recommendations on what I should do I'd greatly appreciate it!

First of great song, but in total, it's super compressed for my ears and to high-endy, It feels like you have overdone the mixing a bit.
Everything sound so distant, and the drums take over to much.

Some small tips:
Try re eq, the kick drum so I can hear it's a kick and not a ballon getting smashed. Try boost a peak around 50 - 80hz. and remove all the high ends.
And it sounds like every drum, toms, snare cymbals is in one track? Separate everything, and don't eq the cymbals so much just a little areound 10k is nice. + Do a aux channel with a compressor and compress the living shit out of it, and send every seperated drum track there. I recommend Density MK3 which is free, och Decapitator from Sound toys. :)

And FL Studio in my opinion will work. But Cubase is definitely worth thinking about getting. I Use it and it's great.

I don't know what you did or if, you did something with the master channel.
I say so much else because I can't hear it... because something else is in the way... But if this helps, go ahead and ask more questions :)

(I am new at this site but not new as a producer)

This is a hardcore/metal song. That's the last thing he'd want to do.

From someone who listens to (and the primary scene in my town IS this style), I'd have to say the recording sounds REAL good actually. I'm pretty impressed with it. My only concern is that it does sound a little overcompressed, but not like it's on individual instruments. It sounds like the whole mix has a compressor on it that's set really poorly to cause a TON of pumping.

Of course, this IS an eight month old thread that was revived, but I figured hey, maybe you're still checking out that song of yours. xD

This probably didn't get any initial responses because it wasn't posted in/moved to the MP3 mixing clinic.
