Hey Analytical,

i've been trying to get in touch with you. I keep getting your pm's but i can't respond cuz of mailbox. Did you get my email?

I put up an isolated verse track.

*im trying to listen but man the server must be jammed or something because it's already been 2 minutes and im on 28%*

Ok after like a 10 minute download I finally am getting to listen...

HOLY IRON MAIDEN!! Man that's what im conjuring when I listen to that guitar player..

It sounds well produced to me, hey that lead is nice i like that I may lift a few of those licks if you doan mind.

When the singer goes to melodic I'm warming up to the tune, I didn't get as much from the screaming portion of his vox. Like how you guys get busy at the end, sah-weet.

..NOOOO!! NOO!!!!!.. such a sweeeeet guitar riff at the end and that guy is croaking all over a perfect opportunity.. man

Oh well, i guess it's up to the artist. Very good work overall.

sit tight guys

i got a 3rd mix coming up but its taking forever to upload on dialup.

M. Brane- see if this mix is any better in the low end department.
Super_Critic- i respect your right to an opinion and thanks for the compliment on my guitar playing but you suck at giving criticism. "The mix is poor" please elaborate, im open to suggestions. If i thought it was excellent and finished, i wouldnt be posting here for advice. Now on the other hand, im eager to hear what gives you the right to be a SUPER_CRITIC.
Khompewtur- thanks for taking the time to dl. Ive never really listened to Iron maiden, your probably hearing my In flames influences. "hey that lead is nice i like that I may lift a few of those licks if you doan mind." i suppose thats a compliment lol, thanks.

the truth is the truth everywhere.

Better....

....but there's still a few EQ issues to my ears.

A quick tweak with the trusty iTunes graphic produced this:

super_critic- whatever you say man. Like i said before, your criticism sucks. If you want me to take you seriously then give me some advice that will actually help, which based on your previous post i doubt your able or willing to do.
M.brane- call me retarded but im not sure what your getting at with the graphic lol. I only deal with my mixer and adats, the on screen stuff isnt very clear to me. Is it the bass guitar that still has too much low end? Should i try and go back to something like the 1st mix?

super_critic

i just did a search and it seems that you are some sort of mixing clinic troll. You dish it out but I see that you haven't posted anything so im just going to ignore you from now on.

whatever.

Super_critic I can see

that your posting but i have no clue what your saying because your on my ignore list. Now don't forget to close the door on the way out of my thread.

thats a good little troll

Yeah, it seems the bass guitar is still a bit hot down around 50 or so.

Cutting a bit at 250 and boosting 4K helped the snare and guitars to cut through a bit better as well. That graphic was just a quick tweak I did while listening.

Intricate heavy stuff like this can be a real bitch to get balanced on the bottom, yet still be powerful. Sometimes less is more when it comes to bass guitar. High-passing the bass around 50 can really help tighten things up by leaving the subsonics open for the kick. Too much bottom on the bass guitar can smear the kick even on small speakers. Most stereo speakers have serious trouble reproducing stuff below 50 with any degree of accuracy anyway.;)

This is not a mix post, b/c I can't turn anything up on anything decent right now, but I wanted to tell you that you have some amazing gifts, and I couldn't ever play or sing this... I don't have the natural gifts. I have some of my own (mostly, the ability to locate pitch correcting software), but you really are very good.

Sorry I can't help with the mix...but you wouldn't want my input on this... you know, "needs more fiddle." Stuff like that :D

Nice work,
Chris

Okay, I just read the title of the thread, so I'm assuming you didn't do any of the stuff I just complimented you on, right?

lmao...Yeah, I'm a sharp one.

Nice mix (still on headphones) :D

Holy shit, I love 2:17 on. The drums are modest and the vocal harmonies are right on, freakin' sweet. The song as a whole reminds me a lot of In Flames.

thanks

kramer- yeah that troll just needs to give it up, hes not getting anything else out of me. I could care less if he likes my music or not.
M. Brane- Ill go to work on it, as soon as i get home from my day job today. Thanks man, you have been a big help to me on these last 2 songs.
Chris-your commments are greatly appreciated. It means alot coming from one of the bigger forces in the clinic. The thread title is a little misleading, mainly to keep people from railing me, if they think it sucks and to keep them focused on mix advice lol. Im the guitar player/songwriter for this band. Thanks again for the listen man.
FattMusiek-thanks for the listen man, early IN Flames albums are some of my favorite cds, cant help but have some of their influence come through.

one more try

M. Brane- i gave it one more go round, i think im starting to lose focus and may just need to take a break from it for a few days. I put this mix together with some of your previous suggestions ( i think ) lol. I can tell its not near as bass heavy, but is it better im not sure? thanks as always

All the flame war crap with supersucker distracted me from hearing this killer tune.

The latest mix kicks ass!I just compared it to mix #3 and it's a vast improvement. The drums are alive and kickin in this mix. They sounded a little dull eq wise and lacking highs in mix # 3,BUT this mix kicks some major ass all the way across the board.

Guitars sound great and the vocals are sitting in the mix perfect to my ears.....I like the verb on the vocals......those clean guitars sound good too..did you record the clean guits direct or mic and amp?Acoustics at the end mic'ed?This is great man.

Killer performance.

thanks kramer

the eq on the drums is identical from mix to mix but i guess that goes to show how much the bass guitar can muddy things up (if eq'd improperly lol).
Yep all guitars are mic'ed. I believe the clean is a small fender m-80 with my 71 les paul custom miced with an (ev-635a). The acoustics were tracked a while back but i think it was just an mxl-603s out in front of the 12th fret. I probably should write some of this stuff down lol.
Thanks again for the praise kramer, im starting to feel better about this mix. Now i need to get in bed lol, its 4am here .
