I eventually want to end up with a Mesa/Boogie Dual Recitifier Head, but at the moment, I don't have that kind of money to spend. However, I desperately need a good distortion, and I know the Dual Rectifier has the tone I want.
Can anyone recommend anything similar to that of the dual rectifier, that I can look into?
Mesa Boogie has both a pedal preamp (about $300) and rackmount preamp (about $500)for those who don't have the grand or so for the dual rectifier.Sorry ,I don't remember the model numbers. The pedal has two tubes and diamondplate construction. The rack unit has either two or three tubes and is full width 1X size black metal.

You are correct, sir. The V-twin is right. My little brother has one.I almost bought it after listening and playing it.I got an older ART MP1 instead due to similar money and more features on the ART.
The dual retifier tone is somewhat different. But the V-twin doesn't have the solid-state circuit. The Dual Rectifier has both tubes and transisters, right? The V-twin is just the tube circuit (I think).Still sounds real good, though.

dont get a pod what ever you do, just a/b the pods recifier setting running totally dry with the real thing and youll see what im talkin about.id reccomend a v-twin myself. the v-twin has the pod faded on tone matters.to me the pod has made listening to music more difficult. every time i hear a song with that crappy pod direct sound i friggin bite my tongue in disgust.
also there are other brands than mesa.check out rivera's products cause rivera makes a mean amp.
and there are lots of older mesa boogies you can get for cheap used that sound real good.hmmm....soldono's are good for high gain.....
id say riveras are every bit equal to mesa's but the dual rectifier is a monster. do oyu need all that power thoug
h?
if you dont want to go deaf id advise you to get a power attenuater the same day as your rectifier.otherwise your ears WILL get damaged as you turn up for the killer tone.
