That is really cool.
Have not heard that in years!
Very cool to hear this type of stuff again.

It maybe just me, but I could more verb on the vocals.

Is that a standup bass I hear? That is actually pretty damn neat. I'm a reverb kinda guy but I like this as it is.

More reverb - is my vote. But it can stand as is too... Excellent vintage tone/feel/sound...
Why is it old stuff always sounds so good? Of course the delivery is part of that!

Hi,

Thank You all :)
I tried to put some more reverb, but then the main vocal goes to much in the background and I didn't like that, so I put less reverb than I initially planned to.
We used upright bass and only 3 microphones :)

I'm glad You guys like it :)

Hmmm, yeah like it! Nice sound
If you're really going for a 'vintage' sound, then to my ears the lead vocal is just too crystal clean (i know strange thing to say right?) Ideally I think I'd try putting a in bit of comb-filtering if possible, to try and simulate an older sounding mic and dull it down a bit. Potentially dropping lead vox back in the mix a bit would suggest an older mixing style... like this YouTube - "Vintage" Five Blind Boys of Alabama-An AQGC 2000 Hall of Fame Inductee (good bit of the old Blind Boys of Alabama!)

Thanks, You are right, the main vocal is very present. I tried to put 2-3 different old ribbon microphons, but then it was too dull. The song is recorded live while the singer was also playing an acoustic guitar, so I decided to record his vocal with large diaphragm condenser because he moved too much. We are now mixing an old country song (recorded the same way), but the main vocal is not that good, so we done it again with old Melodium ribbon and it sounds just right I think. I will post the song here as soon as we finish it.

Fab. It crossed my mind that a ribbon like a Coles 4038 would have helped with the vintage type sound you were going for, but didn't mention it as clearly it's already down on tape and actually I like the vocals they just need to be dulled a little :)

Thanks :)
The next song will be recorded on tape (we bought Studer c37). We have some Reslo Ribons, I could try them, but I would really like to buy RCA 77 dx or 44 bx one fine day :)
