Allright - I own only 4 mics but I like them all:
Shure SM57 - drums
Shure SM58 - live vocals
EV PL80 - live female vocals
RODE NTK - recording vocals

1. Shure ksm27
1. Shure SM57
1. Shure Omnidirectional Dyn Mic (not sure what the model number is anymore)
1. Oktava MK-319
1. EV C07

I just splurged for my first set of mics for my drum set:

1 - Shure Beta 52
3 - Shure SM57
3 - Audio Technica Pro-25ax
2 - Studio Projects C4
1 - Audio Technica ATM-41a (tossed in as a freebee!!!)

So far I'm VERY satisfied with these. The C4's are taking a bit to get used to... they're so versatile.

 *drool*

do you record orchestras or do alot of live gigs or something, my rock band recording mind is having trouble conveiving someone having so many groups of mics (8 414's, 4 u87's)

I wouldn't even have place in my home studio to store all those mics

Anyways, it's easy to quote from a catalog...... :D

Soundelux Elux 251
Royer R-121
Neumann KM-184 stereo pair
BLUE Baby Bottle

Just out of curiosity, wondering how many mics the average member here has, and, if there is anyone that has more than Harvey.
I'll start with my updated list and what I paid for them. I have bought used only and have saved a ton of money. I think these have all been aquired in the last 2 months.
(1)Neumann TLM-103 $400
(1)Sennheiser MD-441 Blackfire $259
(2)Sennheiser MD-421-U-5 $100 for the pair
(4) Sennheiser MD-504 $60 each
(1) Beyerdynamic Soundstar II $60
(1) Beyerdynamic TGX-50 kick mic ($130 I think)
As you can see I like German mics
(2) MXL 603's
(1) Behringer ECM 8000 $30
And I think thats it.
Total: 13 $1319 Not bad I think.

how the heck did you get a Neumann TLM-103 for $400?? tell me!!

This is a old thread and the price used to be about $700.00 new for a TLM103..hence the $400.00 used price

I once bought two TLM103s for $430 apiece from GC. They where in bad shape however and I had to use a toothbrush and toothpaste to clean up the finish. Once I was done they looked brand new. Sold them for $700 each because, well, you need a really good preamp to make them sound good and I did not have one at the time.

I just picked up an old AKG D330E on ebay for $31, and an unused SM58 for $59. Ebay works out if you will buy old junk.

Oh, yeah! Well I just got a NEW cad m177 for $62.00, so it's a good place for new junk, too! :)

Shure SM57 - 7
Shure Beta SM58 - 1
Rode NT-1A - 1
CAD E300 - 1
Sennheiser e609 - 1
Beyer TG-X50 - 1
MXL 990 - 2
MXL 603 - 2 (matched pair)
MXL V69 Mogami Edition - 1 (just got it yesterday!)
MXL ??? (can't remember model #, will check later) - 1
Radio Shack PZM - 1 (the older one licensed by Crown. Man I wish they still made these. The new ones are just OK.)
Crown CM311A (headset mic)
Added since previous post:
Beyer M201
MXL V67 green
EV N/D 757

I'd like to have tenths of mics but this is what i have at hand right now:

AKG C-414B ULS
AKG C-451EB+CK1
Shure Beta 56
Groove Tubes GT-66
Rode NT-5 x 2

access to these too:

Shure SM81 x 2
AKG C-414EB P48
Shure SM57s and SM58s
Sennheiser 441
CAD M-37
Marshall MXL V67

I've used Rode NT-2, Shure KSM-32 and AT4033 extensively too but recently sold them...arghhh.

I've sold most of my cheap condersers too (MXL, Nady, Behringer, CAD). I'd rather have 2-3 good mics.

nkjanssen's list is like as big as Conway Studio's list ...

(1) SM57
(1) SM58
(1) CAD GXL2200 condenser

All rockin'. I like the condenser the best out of the three.

cheap mics, but they do the job...

i have a pretty crappy mic collection, but i'm a poor student. my main interest is to see how far i can take what i have available to me. i use what i have to record demos of my indie rock band, as well as demos for my friend's bands.

(2) oktava mk12s
(2) seinheiser 835s
(1) oktava mk219
(1) at 4040
(1) sm57
(1) sm pg57
(1) at midnight blues vocal mic
(1) at sm58 copy (don't know for sure what it is)
(1) stagg kick drum mic
a few random "radio shack" mics

when i record, i record drums with the oktava 012s as overheads, the seinheisers on the toms, the sm57 on the snare, and either the stagg or the at4040 on the kick depending on the situation. the 4040 gets used for electric and acoustic guitar and vocals as well. i run bass direct through a preamp and a compressor. this setup seems to work pretty well for demo quality recordings, and with some deft use of eq'ing and compression, i can get some pretty amazing recordings out of what i have. nothing mind blowing, but i've gotten some nice comments from others who have heard our stuff.
