The contrast between the 2 guitars in rhythm mode is really good.
The chorus is quite Buffalo Tom in it's dynamics - that's a good thing by me.
Good bass, drums fit really well esp - the cymbal ride section in 1.
I like the change in the vocal in 2 BUT the reduction of the music make too dramatic a cut in the flow. The ride ticks #1 through the changes whereas in 2 it's virtually stop, think, rebuild.
excellent song & recording.

Thanks Rayc!

I agree about the breakdown in the second version not being right. It's kind of a rough idea, that definitely needs some tweaking. I'll try leaving some or all of the musical elements in, and just low-fi the vocal.

Very good. The snare could use a little more crack. The voice is too upfront for my taste. But that just a matter of style and taste. Just my .2 cents. Nicely done, tho.

These are rough mixes, looking to some fresh ears and fresh perspective. Also, if you have time compare the breakdown in the two tracks and tell me which one is on the right track (or neither). That's the only difference between the tracks.

Thanks in advance. :D

Mix One:

Overall, I like the recording. There are a few issues with the drums....the kick seems a bit too busy for the tune and causes the tempo to float a bit here and there....that's more of a personal preference than anything else.
Vox seem to sit on top of the mix rather than in it. Maybe pull em back a couple of db. Excellent guitar tones throughout, very nice tracking. They seem to be a bit out of synch on the intro and the tempo gets a little flaky as they move in and out of synch. Might tighten that up a bit.

Mix Two: I like where you are going with this one. The lofi breakdown works...it'll take a bit more polishing, but you already know that. I might consider putting some delay on the vox during the lofi as well to add a nice distant feel to it.
The vox seem to ride ontop of the mix rather than in it as did the first mix.
Again, very nice tracking on this. The guitar mix seems to have more detail this time around. Very nice beginning.

Thanks guys.

The Vox is on top for sure. The singer likes it that way, but I agree it's too much. Hopefully I can talk him into toning it down for the final mix.

It also sounds like the lofi breakdown is the way to go.

Thanks! :D

Listening to vers. 2.......
Singer sounds pretty good.
Was there a timing issue in the strumming guitar right in the intro? Voice sounds like it's fitting in pretty well in the mix to me.
Very good song, pretty good recording. ;)

There is something about these tracks that is a little fatiguing. It sounds to me like something in the master bus. It's the sort of fatiguing that I get when I use too much Sonic Maximizer in my mixes. At first I like the way it sounds, but the more I listen to it, the more hurts my ears.

Other than that, I like. Sounds really good.

Thanks. Yeah, there are timing issues all over the place. I corrected the beginning somewhat, could use some more......

Hmmmm. No Sonic Maximizer. There is a Vari-Mu on the Mix Buss, but it's only doing 1-2 db of GR. I have a limiter on there, but it's set pretty mild as well. Maybe the buss EQ? Again, it's set very mildly too though.

Does this sound any better? Different vox, some level tweaks, and a bit of automation. I stuck with the regular breakdown, I still may go back and try and correct the lo-fi version, but I'm kinda digging this version.

Thanks! :D

Hey, NL, this sounds really good, now. No timing issues, voice sits beautifully in the mix. Love the voice, it's got lots of character, just the way I like it. Nice!:)

Thanks!

Yeah, I stripped the intro down to one guitar. I had already edited the second one to match, and tried editing some more, and the timing was on, but it still didn't sound right being so cut up. I like the way the song comes in bigger now anyway.

Thanks again! :D

Listened to the new version on headphones. Good vocals, singer's voice is good. One thing I noticed is that the occasional word drops out here and there and becomes inaudible. Maybe more compression to even out the level, make it more consistent?
