Townsend wouldn't allow any political or charity/enviro grops use this song - it was too close to him & THEN he let a dumb cop show snavel it up. He's a hero &, like many heroes, a disappointment.
At least this isn't disappointing.
I think the guitars are poifect.
The keys are great - not slavish, not too far removed & !
The voice - yet more evidence that the singer can own almost any genre he cares to yoddle in.
the bass - well JE always had a distinctive sound with a good growl & this holds that place handsomely.
Drums - what machine/program did you use? (joke Joyce!) Greg moons Moon! Don't join the Who Greg, they've have a Spinal Tap relationship with drummers!
This really is air guitar induction time.
Fabbo.
I'll be keeping this one.

yo-del-ah-dee-WHOOOOOOOOOO.....!!!!!!:D

Yeah, dude... This is a great piece on a lot of levels.. I think the thing that I noticed the most is how different you all sound. I noticed a lot of the usual Greg-patterns in his drumming weren't there... I also had to remind myself continually that I was listening to Joey's vocals. Very, very different. Keith's addition was awesome, but I wouldn't have known it was him on the synths. It's great to hear people doing different stuff. I love collabs like these!

Stellar job, guys. I can't really comment on the mix as I'm listening to this through crappy earbuds. But from what I heard, it sounded pretty balanced.

Oh... Also, Greg.. Your cymbals are crazy washy. Playing them as often as you are in this song, the washiness really affects the overall tone. Gotta get ya some smaller cymbals for your studio, dude!

Three of my HR.com favorites on one track....

I just unorked all over my desk.

Turbo stellar fucking show boys. I am impressed all to shit.

Only thing i heard that stood out was the backing vocals the yway they are mixed makes it sound like it is kinda in a small room.

But it could be my gay work speakers.

But not typical of either mixing styles of gergs or Joeys ???

Might just be me too?

Stoked.

Gotta get ya some smaller cymbals for your studio, dude!

Buy me some then. :D

It's not the cymbals, it's this room. I don't care that much though. They're not comb-filtering anymore and that's all I care about. They sound fine to me. I don't like quick decay cymbals anyway.

That was very well done, what else to say? I am not a fan of the cymbals, but they fit the sound you are going for I think.

Very well mixed, but I would also like to hear a more "modern" sounding version with the vocals more up front, less cybals etc, would be a completely different animal but not neccesarily a better one :D

mind blowing 3d synth stuff in a guitar rock song, gotta love it ;)

BTW, I have UTMOST respect for people like greg (and jason for that matter) that go through the trouble of recording REAL drums, particularly if they do it well as in this case.

Cool, very true to the original. I want to pick a bone with the drum mix. I have a big problem with the low/floor tom. It is way too boomy. I have a hard time enjoying it when I hear that booming tom cutting through the mix. That is the only problem I hear. Oh, the bass could have some more balls. Everything else sounds pristine. Nice collab.

Clong

Pure class! Think I've just woken up the house singing along tho... and blown my headphones!

I agree about the lowest floor tom. It's ridiculous. The mic had slipped closer to the head than I normally put them, so it was definitely out of position. But I didn't want to re-track the whole thing or fumble with punch-ins, so I left it alone, and honestly it grew on me. It's one run through, warts and all. Keith Moon style! Lol. I now think it's a happy accident and it sounds cool on big speakers, like home hi-fi or loud in the car.

Thanks for listening and the nice comments everyone.

yeah thanks for the comments and listens guys...Greg and Joe are powerhouses so this was a great collab...and i like the warts an all performances..it meant I never had to keep mine tidy either :)...at first i did the keys much to the original with a B3 sound running through the entire track, it was synthaphobic Greg who suggested giving it a more modern edge..glad folks like it

an Im proud to be a Whotard!

Holy schnikees!!:eek: That freakin rocked!! Greg, DAMN, those drums, the fills, the breaks -howdya remember all that?- You are pretty decent at those skins sir! Although, the volume does not seem to be hitting me as hard as your usual songs :(. Maybe, because there's a lot going on here. Keith, there's a perfect mix of the strangeness that you do and the original - very cool :cool:! That's quite a lot of rockin' for you...You gonna need some therapy after this? Joey, that was a treat hearing you do a classic like this! You add that touch of metal snarl to it and it was well done. :D
This is my favorite cover I've heard in the clinic, yes, I like it just a little more than even Greg's Ace covers!!
Whotards rock!! :D:D:cool:

Thanx Brad!
Proud to be a Whotard...!:D

Fantastic rendition Greg, all the energy is there, and one of my favorites of all time.

Was Moon dead by the time the original of this was released? He put cymbals everywhere. Love your "Roger Doultry" Greg... even if it is a bit too tight and closed :-) The synth is better than the original but the guitars could be a tad more "British" and crisper.

eh that was Joey singing, Tobe...collab's the clue :D

Moon was very much alive for this one, as you'll see on videos on Utube...in fact the last time you'll see him is on the "live" video for "Who Are You", which is a song i didnt like that much until I realised this...now I think it should be remade in his honour..hint hint :)

Sorry, listened hard, but read soft... props to all you guys... fantastic energy :D

This is excellent, guys. Just true enough to the original, but with enough changes to make it modern and interesting. Any more in the works? Also, I'd sure love to have a Whotards t-shirt :)

Best,

Dave

Merchandise is an interesting point...Ive been thinking of dietary supplements called "Wont get full again" so the t shirts might only come in XS or S as an incentive???
