Decent D.I.? Good for bass? How much new? Whats good used?
Thanks.

None of the meek stuff is available new right now. SPI is reworking all of it. You can however get just about anything meek made (even the tough to find fat head) on EBAY.

For a idea on price, check http://www.prepal.com/data/JoeMeek.htm

For the unit you are talking about one went this weekend on ebay for under $125. There is one there now which will go about $140.

To the DI question, they work OK and I tend to like the round sound that they give my p and j basses. I also like the built in eq. the compressor will frustrate initially, but in you stick with it, you might like it.

I got my meek the same day (about) that my RNP showed up and I really liked the RNP for my bass. Even though FMR says that the RNC is no good for bass, I found that it worked well at just cutting the highest notes when used as an insert to the RNP.

Hope this helps.

Jim

By the way, to answer the other part of your question: good investment? I would say yes.

I have been struggling with my voice through my SP C3 mic through my Aardvark Q10 pre's. Other guys would come over and sing through it and it would should great, but for me it always sounded like the higher mids were distorting or just too harsh (I am not a great singer to start, but I felt I ~could~ sound better.) The (newer VC3Q) worked wonders. I am still getting used to it, but all of a sudden my voice just mellowed... even with the compressor off. Other things happened too, like I lost a lot of the sparkly highs that showed up to some extent in the Q10 and more in the RNP, but I would say that the meek was a great investment for ME.

Tube, wait for the new Meek's.

The old one's were "good", however, I spoke with Alan today
and he was VERY convincing. They made a big splash at AES in New York.
