Dammit, Jim, Shut Up!
Its way too early to foam at the mouth, but I just got my Meek MQ3 tonight and did a test vocal with my MXL V67 and was delighted with what i heard. Compared to the other pre's in my cheap-ass arsenel, it took me about 10 seconds to determine that this was a superior product. I set it up, did some rudimentary tweaking of the input, compressor and Eq (or is that Meek-Q?) and found a number of good sounding settings. Its quiet, the compressor is extermely musical, and the EQ is voiced so that even a semi-idiot like me can use it with success. With the V67, I was able to get an incredible and realistic vocal recording in nothing flat. I can't wait to try it on guitars and bass.
I'm not gonna sit here and tell you that its as good as an Avalon or a Neve pre because I haven't tried them. This I can say--its sounds better than either a Mackie pre or a Tube MP--or the Behringer Ultra Voice-"Pro". For the $199 I spent, I know it is going to make a measurable difference in my recordings.
Thanks to Gidge and Alan Hyatt for waving the flag for this product. The MQ3 really sounds great. It was exactly what I was looking for! I'd be happy to take any questions anyone has after I get a chance to use it in different applications, like acoustic and electric guitars, bass and drums.
Gosh, I am so happy!
