Medium size basement studio acoustics help

hey... i have some descent gear... some shure and AT mics.. RNC.. digi 002 r... my recordings are ok i guess... i was gonna get more mics... but i have heard that the sound of the room is more important... and ive seen some nice studios on this site.. but i cant do anything major to my basement... because anything i do would have to pass with the parents... i was reading on sayers site... a little to in depth for me ... wat could i do to the room... buy foam? bass traps? soundbaord ? fiberglass? i have heard al of these things... the room is in 2 parts.. half carpet.. half tile.. i track drums on carpet.. and have my comp on the tile... maybe someone could give me some basic things i could do for under 200? or more.. i dunno

Are you handy with a hammer and saw? There are tons of threads describing how to build your own Bass traps either panel or flat, but corners are where the bass modes meet a tri corner, so corner traps work best in a small room. Up at the ceiling-wall junctures. Do a search here for "bass traps", or Ethan Winers traps, and his site is full of info too. I'm just leaving for work and don't have the time to post the links. the pics are too big to post... but at that site.. unless ive gone crazy... should have a few pics of drummers playing... in the room... best i could do.. its about 14 ft tall... goes back 15 feet... about 20 ft wide.

o ya... ive looked at ethan winers... sorry if thats spelled wrong.. his mini traps on his website... i dont got the cash for em... anyone ever use em tho? maybe i can try to create sometihn.. and anyone have a link to a DIY for ****ing idiots on making a good bass trap? lol.. thx
