Electric guitar AND bass?

Go with the MD-421... it's a large diaphragm dynamic and does a better job on the low frequencies than an SM-57.

the 421 blows the sm57 away obviously. i use the 57 for snare 99% of the time, it gets the job done. i dont own a 421 but have used them in the studio alot. great mic. i would take it any day over the 57

once again i prefer the MD421 !
i'm totally crazy about german mics :D

now i also felt that my md421 seems to be easier to position,
gives a more solid sound, i need less EQ, or even No eq
will sound better than a tweaked sm57,

it are robust beasts too ! my md421 fell on the ground about 10 times
and it still works, rocks and kills

i'm replacing all (but 1) my 57's this year,
i mainly record drums, so i want sennies on the toms,
a little more expensive, but its the sound i want,

true, u can "use the 57 for everything" with an average quality,
for me its time to choose one specific mic for each instrument...

now, what was according to several people a much better Snare mic than the shure?
the Beyer Dynamic ....306 something??

but it doesn't do better because it has a large diaphragm

yeah, I read the huge mic post, on my third or 4th time through it actually.

Why not hte 609?
Good call. Nice cab mic. While it's a little bit thin-sounding for my taste, the price is great and it also works real well for toms.
