MC 909 memory expansion.... Help please!

I love the machine and have had little problems with it.... then I decided to expand the memory. The process seemed to go well but now, even though the system shows the amount of free space that was put in, I am still only allowed the sample time of the original RAM. Please help!

For anyone who isn't familiar with RAM memory, as it was explained to me, Ram memory is temporary and what I was doing was trying to write my samples to "User" when it can only be saved to the Smart Media card. Expanding the RAM allows you to record lenghthy samples but as soon as the machine is shut down you lose it.
