yo. I got some issues here with my mbox. I have a MXL v69 mogami edition mic and i plug it into source one in the mbox. i go into pro tools and create a new track thats stereo. Recording in stereo sounds a little more crisp than mono in my opinion. anyway, when i record in stereo it only shows audio activity on the left. I tried turning each knob all different ways, but I get no change. any ideas?

that's because ONE microphone input=mono. Mono means one. Stereo means two. when creating a stereo track in PT you're telling it to look at inputs 1 & 2. If you have only one microphone hooked up only to input 1 then you're only going to get one channel.

So theres no way to emulate stereo recording in PT using one mic?

not with what you have. what are you recording anyway? are you recording a stereo source??
remember:
mono=one
stereo=two

if you want to capture one sound (ie. a vocalist's voice, a trumpet's bell, a harmonica, etc.)....you generally use one microphone. if it's something like a guitar where you want to capture the body sound AND the fret sound....use two mics. If you want to capture an overall sound of the drumset that has multiple sounds coming from it, use two microphones. Same with something like a piano or a choir. In other words if the instrument makes a sound in two or more different places, two microphones can be used to record. Otherwise you might just want to use one. This isn't a set rule or anything but is something most engineers follow.
This isn't something that just Pro Tools can't do...it's a recording technique.
