Hello,

I am trying to choose recording software and equipment and I am new at this. I was going to buy Pro Tools interface and software and I'd like some feedback.
What are the pros and cons of recording with an Mbox 2?

If not pro tools, then what? I noticed that there is a lot of software out there for download as free trials, and I would like to give it a try to see if I can really do this thing. But that would mean buying an audio interface that's compatible with just about anything (except Pro tools perhaps?)

What to do, what to do...

Thanks,

isabelle

I would really advise against going with protools unless your eventual goal is to use pro tools professionally (engineer in recording studio or Post production using Protools). It IS the industry standard, but you might not necessarily fall into "the industry".

The fact is that protools is great software, but because of the hardware/software trap they get you into, people are spending way more than they need to.

If you just want to lay down some basic tracks, get something cheap like an m-audio solo and use one of the many free, or cheap programs out there. Hell, it probably even comes with a very usuable LE version of something. Or, if you're on a mac, just use garageband! Although I'm on protools, my co-writer is all about garageband just for the simplicity of it!

reaper is supposed to be really good and has a free demo. and if you want to buy it, it's only 40 dollars or so.
