Hmmm, I just broke out my SPL meter and checked a song playing C weighted slow response, and 85 db was a pretty moderate listening level. How loud should a song be playing back at?
I don't know but 'very quiet' is a very good acid test for seeing if the key elements are cutting it -and the ears don't fatigue as quickly. :D

...That's probably the first time I've used that meter in at least 6 years - I was surprised that the battery was still good - , but it sure feels good knowing that I have it in my toolbox. Kind of like knowing that you still have a beer and some leftover pizza in the fridge for later, even though you're not hungry now ;).

G.
Take the damn batteries out.

And thanks. Now I want some pizza.

It's strange that 85dB is the level that we should be mixing at. I was just in an industrial hygiene class where they told us that any noise level above 84dB for an extended period of time will cause hearing loss..

The example they gave us is that a jet plane taxiing down a runway is an average of 104dB, which would require double hearing protection...

So if we are mixing at 85dB, aren't we all going deaf? What am I missing from this equation?
