Matching up rhythm/tempo of imported wav files

The thing is, when I take a wav file of a song that I recorded on my 8-track and import it to guitar tracks 2, the rhythm doesn't match up to the little division things they have, that run across the top of the edit screen, so that I cannot effectively edit at all. I want to cut out a certain measure, but I can't, because the measures (or 'little division things') on the program are not lined up with the actual measures in the recording. Is this making sense? The problem seems to be that the program wants the song to have a tempo of 100 bpm. but it doesn't. the measures on the program are set up for a song with 100 bpm, so they don't line up with my song, which is at 90 bpm. Now, there is a little box for changing the bpm, so I changed it from 100 to 90, but all that did was slow down my recording. It didn't even make the measures match up. This is a long post. But I need help. How can I fix this?

Change the BPM in Sonar to 90 BPM BEFORE you import the audio .wav file.

Try this

Bean,

If you are importing a stereo wav file recorded into a editor from your 8-track machine you have to make sure your file has a start point on the first beat of a measure.

I assume that you intend to add additional tracks to your imported file or use that as a template to re-do the song. If I'm wrong I apologize for the assumtion.

I often do that. As long as you have the original tempo and the wav files starts at the first beat (i.e. a silent first measure) then you should be able to lock up the app with the imported wav file.

I hope that helped you.

Also check to make sure that loop enable is not on for that file. It will most likely not be, but you never know.

Depending upon what the recording is like, strong percussive beat or not, you can use the EXTRACT TIMING command to create a tempo map of the imported .WAV file.

This helps if you are adding other tracks alongside........

Ciao,

Sorta Related...

On a sort of related note, does anybody know how to turn OFF the "Snap to grid" feature in Sonar 2.0? I can adjust the properties of where the clips snap to, but I can't figure out how to turn it off completely.

Thanks!

Click on the Grid Icon at the top of the Track View Window. It toggles it on and off.

Click the down arrow next to it if you want to change the Snap To settings.

I knew it was there SOMEWHERE!

dachay2tnr, you are the best! I can't believe how fast you replied to my post! Thanks a million!

The alternative would have been to actually get some work done. And what fun would that be? :)
