Mastering offer

Their loss. I worked out the basic running costs of the studio. My normal charge is $1800, and I've been told quite often that I should increase that.

i'm so interested =( but i'm a broke ass 15 year old, i'd have the money in a few months, but only in a few months.

You might get more clients if you tell who you are? :) :) :)
Sjoko is the man, PERIOD. I'm kicking myself for not having anything that needed mastering right now.

I'm sure he is experienced in the field. I like to push his buttons:) But seriously, I want to know who he is. I am sure he can do a good job at mastering but would not send any material to someone I do not know the name of and I really don't believe in sending material to anyone I have not sat with and discussed in real time what needs work and what I want in a mastered disk. This is standard procedure (At least it is MCA's). After you (the label) have established a working relationship with the mastering eng. it is ok to send material without personal contact. This applies even more so when the facilities are new.

I am not dissing sjoko's offer it is good for the average hobbiest but the artists that I would send would not appreciate it and I would lose face.

If anyone accepts this offer I would love to hear pre and post mastered material. Not to pick at the job but to get a example of his work. Again this is standard procedure. It would be better to get examples from sjoko. Even better to get a tour of his place when I am down in LA in Sept.

I want to clarify I am not starting another debate or flaming anyone just stating facts of the industry.

You're welcome to "do the tour" in September nws!,
Of cause you could also at the same time sit down with me, listen to stuff, discuss your mastering needs, and pay the normal rate, which is well in the 4 figures :)

Jeez guys, I only made the offer as I'm getting prepared to open the place up. I need to test stuff, make sure everything is perfect, and prefer to do just that with real stuff.
If I'd do anything you don't like, I'll gladly give you your money back. Its costs, that's all.
The first thing I mastered in the new facility is now on MP3. http://www.mp3.com/pete_bardens

Sjoko,

Do you know Brian Ingolsby? Have you ever worked with him? Just curious as I want to solve the mystery of who you are.

Is there a mystery about who I am? I don't think so. I've never been one of those "Iwanmynameonit" kinda guys. I started as a musician, stopped performing 'coz I hated being in the limelight, always have done everything under pseudo's and company names. I've got my reputation amongst those who need to know, I know I'm damn good at my job, which is why I get to work with good artists whom I like to work with. That's all there is to it. No "big secret". Some people know me for what I do, others don't, all fine with me. Now we've started a new production company (NGS Productions LLC - which stands for Nobody Gets Screwed) and studio combined, I'm having to somewhat come out of my shell, as well as put my name on projects, and I can't really say I like it a lot :(

Sjoko is Danny Bonaduce....he keeps his identity low ever since he made the tabloid front pages when he beat up that transvestite......

I hear ya, Hell I never said who I was. I guess I will have to wait till I meet you maybe. I am interested in your new facility. I do like what NGS means too. I can tell you thats why I never went to a major label full time. Too much bullcrap and I am no politician. I see too much talent get screwed because they forgot to return a phone call, or some similiarly lame reason.

I didn't mean to pry to hard as to your identity. I just got pissed when you dissed my replies twice and wanted to know if you were for real or not. You have to admit there are alot of know it alls in the biz that say they did this and that. After I saw the Pete Bardens MP3 post I realized you are not a bullshitter. It is a honor to work with such talent (I really dig Mick Fleetwood as person and musician) as you get to full time. I wish I took the damn eng. job at MCA. Hey, maybe you will need a great assistant eng. someday?

Oh well I must be bored again to write this much, damn:)

PS I still think 1800 per hour is high. I like 600 per hour better.

I don't see why it seems like such a laughable request to ask for references and credits whenever any amount of cash or intellectual property is at stake.

sjoko,

I know you are a regular on this bbs, I've seen pictures of your unfinished studio, and read some of your posts referring to your extensive experience and work on major recordings. But, I have only seen this one recording you just posted (with some mention of your name?). I don't know any other studios you're associated with, or anything else.

Even if I take you at your word that your credentials are excellent, I'd still want to hear examples of your work. I happen to disagree with many of the things you write on this site and would, therefore, be concerned that your approach to mastering was not compatible with my aesthetic sensibilities. Certainly we've all heard major recordings with big name credits from start to finish which we didn't like.

It's your right to scoff at such requests, but I'd find it astonishing if you got many takers. I don't shell out even $1 for something completely sight unseen, especially from someone I don't know from Adam who's claiming to be doing me a favor.

I hope you don't take this personally. I'm in no way trying to disrespect you either. It's just a simple business matter of looking out for ones money and property.

dude,

maybe u should post an mp3 of your best mix to see if its even worthy of being in his facility......

Hey barefoot? Did I tell you I'd do some of your mastering? Did I tell you I'd do you a favor?
Perhaps I should start with asking you why I should even consider doing your stuff??
I am doing some mastering for some friends here - at cost. If they don't like it, they don't have to pay me, I don't do favors for money. So you can stick your aesthetic sensibilities somewhere were the sun doesn't shine :)

nws - I look forward to seeing you in September;)

LOL I thought I'd do some mastering cheap as a favor for homewreckers.....

Just my opinion on the subject.

Of course, I'd probably be more inclined to believe your claims, had you ever met even one of my arguments with a serious, respectful, technically sound, unplagiarized rebuttal :)

Oh thanks barefoot, it suddenly dawned on me that you are THAT asshole.
Asking for things you don't deserve is rather futile don't you think?
I'm really sorry, but I'm here for fun, and to help some people wherever I can. I can choose to be rather selective in doing so.
Apart from that - why on earth would a serious audio pro like yourself ever even consider or expect anything worthwhile from a mere amateur like me?

OK, guys....as far as I'm concerned we're just lucky to have sjoko posting around here. You couldn't put a price on the value of having someone of his expertise on this BBS. We already owe the guy bigtime just for that, but offering his services at such an amazing price is going above and beyond the call of duty. Its clearly a huge favor to the fellow forum members and I just hope that someone can take advantage of it. If I can talk him into doing it and negotiate half as good a price in about 6 months, he's going to be mastering my demo.

Mastering a demo?....Im trying to get him to adopt me....Im house trained and I dont each much......

I'm pretty sure that you could just move into his bigass studio and he wouldn't even notice for a couple days. Hell, he's already got a bunch of pygmy's running around, just crouch down and grunt a lot. Watch out for those 29" ceilings though...

sjoko,

I don't recall asking you for anything, other than if you were a certain audio engineer in Australia who's words you were claiming as you own - which you promptly deleted. A small world this internet does make.

But in the end, sjoko, you win. You are obviously incapable of conducting an insult free debate with me. I'm sorry I even got caught up in it this far. In the future, I'll avoid addressing your posts. It never seems to lead anywhere productive anyway.

barefoot

Please stick to that promise barefoot - might be hard for you, you seem to be a very confused individual.
