I do take into account and respect (almost) every opinion given to me, but to say that the kik drum in PHRANTIK is hard to hear and also that it isnt the right sound is just wrong in my opinion. The kik is easily recognisable and distinctive and i think it is a nice kik sound, not the best, but still im happy with its deep and slappy sound.

OK - first off, in the Mastered version there is no kick once the distorted Guitars kick in - every person that has listened to it says the same thing. You may just be "too close" to the project. It happens to me all the time. :D

In the unmastered version the kick is very distinctive. I can hear it just fine. The mastering is "screwing the pooch" as they say. :D

Cheers man could be right, but my mates and the band say they can hear it pretty easily though on their systems.
Do you have any pointers as to what i could do at mastering to resolve this problem? I know i could limit less, but i kinda need the track to be around -10dB RMS average. Any EQ tips or tricks to get a better sounding master?

By the way does the unmastered mix sound ok? I know the drums are a little loud at parts but i didnt have a decent limiter to stick on the kik and snare at mix down.

i like the un-mastered version better. you went too far in your "mastering"
you're hypeing the highs and lows and it's killing a good mix. making the higs harsh and the lows too big.
just use less eq while mastering and it'll be fine.

BTW, this isn't the one i listened to last time, it was moment of transparency.

No problem pimp away. Ta Giraffee, i think you are right about the mastering. I tried to get the mix to sound as clear and thick as possible by adding loads of hi end and lo end and only really cutting at 5K because of guitar tone and hi pass filter at around 50Hz.
I so wish i could afford a proper mastering engineer as im sure my mixes would sound better. Suppose i still need to work on my mixing though.
