Masons are as messy lot, huh?

3 weeks ago, the masons got started doing their thing on my studio. They're basically working the weekends for extra cash. I'm cool with that. The first weekend, they didn't do much; got the brick pallets broken down and placed around the studio and a few other things, nothing of much significance. Last weekend was the Fourth of July, and I don't expect ANYBODY to work on the Fourth.

So they showed up again today, and really got a lot done. They're still not finished, but it feels good to have work resume on the outside.

But they sure do make a terrible mess!

It may seem like a mess to you but it sure is beginning to look great. That last shot really seems to emphasize the building height. Maybe because of the slope away from the door or something.

How's the inside coming along lately?

man Michael.. that is really looking SWEET. That place outta just be devine and I'm sure your Boston Baby is going to love you for it.

(scuze me), but MOST (not all) construction workers just seem to be pigs.. trash everywhere. AND, they'll leave perfectly good tools, nails, lumber...out in the elements to get ruined. Seems they don't give a hoot.

and masons...or cement workers... they feel their stuff can just get buried anyway...why clean up??:(

Then...there are roofers... damn nails everywhere... just waiting to go flying out of a lawnmower.

I even had a buddy come over and help roof a workshop I built..small 16 x 24 deal. Well... he turned into "MR. Construction slob"...was throwing roofing nails, cut pieces of shingles, drip edges pieces...you name it.. all over. And this was built in the woods..so I had to go "hunt" thru all the undercover and such to pick this crap up. I even had garbage cans all around the parimeter to catch stuff from the roof. Were they used...NO>>>.. I mean, my dogs run thru this stuff. They don't need debri in their cute, cuddly, little, soft, so admirable, just wanna squeeze em, paws...do they??;)
 
dang...now I can kinda see why you might need 10 circuits!!

one for the upstairs bed, upstairs bath, upstairs kitchen, downstairs bath, kitchen, pool room , jacuzzi, sauna, outdoor lighting, alarm systems, pinball room......:eek: :p
 
DDev - The inside is practically full of stuff like OSB, sheetrock, siding, some shingles, posts for the patio... Makes it hard to work in there. Recently, I've been laying out my new console/desk.
Getting the bricks and siding done will help a lot!
I have one more wall to frame up, the wall separating the live room from the... rest of the studio really. But, I can't do that until some of the other material is... applied to the outside.

Right now its ready for electrical rough in. (There will be no elec. penetrations in that last wall)
I have the rockwool ordered though, so I'm sure it'll fill up again inside.


mixmkr - I hear ya!! My roofers were total slobs! I'm still finding nails, and pieces of shingle all over the place, and I cleaned up REAL good after they left.

Wait until the sheetrock guys start. The slop you're seeing now is just a warmup :D :D :D

I'll take you up on that. I'm starting to get my fall schedule together for work, and I'll need to be in Texas (DFW Airport) probably end of september. Since *I* control the schedule and location to some degree (these people work for me), I can easily shuffle it to an airport/hotel in Austin.

I'd love to come by, its neat to meet fellow studio nuts.
 
Besides the painters all construction monkeys are filthy slobs. I should know, I always get stuck cleaning up their mess.

It all gets passed to the painters.

Heh-heh.

I've owned two "pro" studios before, and during the construction I utilized friends who were willing to take payment on barter, so I made it very clear "caulk this, caulk that" etc.

It all worked out in the end. When my buddy Ray needed to redo his roof, I was up there air-nailing shingles. Shingling a 8000 sq ft house with many eaves, dormers, etc in the humid NJ sun in august was nasty!

And you're right about cleanup, seems no one around here cleans up after themselves anymore.

Borrow or rent you one of those rolling magnets that are used to clean up parking lots, tarmacs, etc. where a nail that could go through an airplane tire could cause a REAL catastrophe. The trucking company that my wife works for had one stored up in their attic and they let me use it while I was redoing the exterior of my house and it worked great. It's about a 4' long magnet that has wheels on it and rides an inch or so off the gound. The sucker weighs about 80 lbs to pick up, but it's no big deal to roll around. Just put the kids on it and tell 'em to go to town. They get a real kick out of seeing who can pick up the most stuff.

(Ya know, I gotta return that thing one of these days!) :D
